Drone deliveries from Amazon Prime Air will begin in Texas soon

The second city where Amazon plans to start using drone deliveries later this year has been made public. In order to test customer interest in receiving items via Prime Air, the company said it will begin contacting clients in College Station, Texas.

Amazon’s drone delivery is coming to Texas
Amazon customers in College Station, Texas, will join those in Lockeford, California, to be among the first to receive Prime Air drone deliveries in the U.S.

Amazon claims that many elements of the city, including the research being done by Texas A&M University, including work on drone technology, left an impression on them. Even while College Station isn't the largest city, the US Census Bureau estimates that its population was 120,000 as of last July. As such, it looks like a suitable size for the initial introduction of Prime Air.

The president of College Station, Karl Mooney, said that "Amazon's new facility gives a fantastic potential for College Station to be at the forefront of the development of drone delivery technology." "We are excited to work with Texas A&M and Amazon and are confident that Amazon will be a productive, responsible, and accountable member of our community."

In a recent announcement, Amazon said that later this year, it would begin using drones to deliver items in Lockeford, California. Thousands of products will be available for the program, and packages will be delivered to customers' backyards. Nine years (and more than 20 prototypes) have passed since Amazon first unveiled its plans for drone deliveries before introducing the Prime Air service.
